National Qualifying Time? - No Problem!

Recently T.P Properties’ sponsored swimmer Niamh Robinson, competed in the Lancashire County Age Group Championships which was held over two weekends, first of which at Liverpool Aquatics Centre, and the second at Manchester Aquatics Centre.  The competition was a ‘long course’ in the 50m pool.   Over its course Niamh entered an unbelievable thirteen events, hoping to achieve both regional and national qualifying times (NQT).

Her first event was the 200m breaststroke, one of strength and offered a fabulous start with Niamh winning the gold medal in a time of 2.55.35 (slightly slower than her short course personal best) and gaining both a regional and national qualifying time in the process!

Amidst all of the events it was a requirement to swim a distance freestyle race in order to finish in the top three of an age group.   Niamh chose to swim the shortest choice - the 200m.  She finished in a time of 2.26.17, finishing 17th overall.

Towards the end of the competition matters took a difficult turn.  In the 100m breaststroke, Niamh struggled to get going from the start leaving too much for the second length.  She was very disappointed as she finished in a time of 1.22.41, some 4.5 seconds slower than her best, and forcing her to settle for the silver medal in what is her favourite event.  To make things worse she just missed the NQT by less than a second.  Disappointed, but our Niamh is not one to lose determination.  She made her way back to the start of the pool ready for the final event of the competition, the 50m butterfly.  As we knew she would she literally flew down the pool finishing almost a whole body length ahead of the nearest swimmer in her heat and knocked over two seconds off her best ever time in 31.83, taking the bronze medal.

At the end of the competition, all of the points were added together.  In the 12 years girl’s category, Holly Hibbot from Southport took top position with a total of 2948 points; Ella Sheridan from Burnley Aquatics took second position with 2607 points; and Niamh finished a credible 3rd with 2549 points.  Pioneer 79 Amateur Swimming Club (Niamh’s team) finished 4th overall in the top club competition, putting them up there with some of the best.  Well Done Niamh!!
