National times for our local girl

T.P Properties’ sponsored Pioneer ‘79 swimmer Niamh Robinson was in action again along with a strong team of forty other members of the club at the Bolton and Manchester Age Group Swimming Championships in Manchester.  The competition was held over two weekends and the swimmers were competing against children from all around the Bolton and Manchester areas.  The Pioneer '79 swimmers were in superb form, with some phenomenal new personal best times being set by the majority.  However, Niamh surpassed all expectations in her eight events and the results were fantastic.

Dominating in all events, with placings ranging from fifth to first, personal best times tumbled.  Most agree that her last event of the 100m breaststroke was the true highlight.  Niamh sprinted from start to finish, finishing nine seconds ahead of her closest rival and setting a new personal best time of 1.17.74, a three second personal best time, a national age group qualifying time, and to top it all, a new gala record, some three seconds faster than the previous.

During competition, swimmers are each awarded BAGCAT points for each swim.  These points are given in relation to the time the swimmer achieves in each race i.e. the faster the swim, the more points awarded.  Niamh accumulated a total of 2523 points in her age group, taking top spot.  This was a fantastic achievement and the first time that she had held such a position.

Pioneer ‘79 Swimming Club brought back with them a total of 82 medals including 38 gold, 28 silver and 16 bronze!

These weekends of competition have given Niamh a tremendous sense of achievement especially with the Lancashire County Championships just around the corner.   At present, she has four top ten rankings in the UK – 50m breaststroke (4th), 100m breaststroke (5th), 200m breaststroke (5th) and 100m backstroke (7th).  At this stage of the season, this is fantastic swimming from Niamh.  Well done!
