Niamh Robinson And T.Properties Swimming At The Energy Standard Cup 4 Nations Meet In Italy

T.P Properties’ sponsored swimmer, 15 year-old Pioneer ‘79 member Niamh Robinson was amongst forty talented young British swimmers invited to compete at the Energy Standard Cup 4 Nations Meet in Italy last weekend. This was part of the English Programme’s Phase 3 Talent Development Team.

Swimmers competed against Italy, Germany and the Energy Standard Club of Moscow. The team celebrated an overall second place after battling it out against some of the best European Juniors in the swimming world. Our Niamh was a critical part of the squad.

Competing in three events, Niamh had to wait until Sunday morning to make her stamp on the competition with a swim in the 100m breaststroke. Turning first at the 50m point in a time of 33.28, Niamh went on to finish third in bronze medal place, with a new personal best time of 1.10.49. After a close battle with the eventual winner, Giulia Verona from Italy, Niamh’s GB team mate Layla Black finished second. Go team GB!

In the afternoon session, Niamh competed in the 200m individual medley and the 50m breaststroke. Like buses they all came along at the once! First up was the 200m individual medley. After a very strong butterfly length Niamh turned first in a time of 29.91. Maintaining her position after an extremely tough backstroke length, Niamh turned first at the halfway point in a time of 1.05.32. Excelling on the breaststroke leg, Niamh went into the final length turn 0.7 ahead of second place Anna Pirovano, from Italy. A hard fought freestyle length saw the Italian and Germany’s Julia Mrozinski attack Niamh’s lead. All three girls touched within 0.7 of a second of each other, Niamh taking the bronze medal in a new personal best time.

Less than ten minutes later Niamh was back behind the blocks to compete in her final event, the 50m breaststroke. With a personal best time of 33.13 going into the race, Niamh achieved her third medal of the day, a silver, in another personal best time of 32.74. She was just 0.17 seconds behind her team mate Layla Black. Imagine what next year could bring for the youngster.

Niamh returned from this meet with three medals, three personal best times, and junior long-course records for the Isle Of Mann in all three races, along with senior long-course records in the 200m individual medley and 100m breaststroke. Niamh said that she was delighted to have been selected to compete in Italy and would like to thank her sponsors, TP Properties and Grace Cole, and also her coach at Pioneer ‘79 Swimming Club, Mike Wilson; without all of their support she would not be competing at this level.

Niamh, we would like to thank you too for bring joy and excitement to our daily lives. Knowing that local Lancashire talent is making itself heard on a European level makes us all at T.P Properties rightly proud. Keep going!
