Paula Woodruff Gains Seat On Healthwatch Shadow Board

Healthwatch Pathfinder status was conferred on Blackburn with Darwen in 2011 by the Department of Health in response to a joint bid by the Borough Council, the Local Involvement Network (LINk) and the Carers Federation.  ‘Healthwatch’ will be a new local and national independent consumer champion for the public, commencing in 2013.   Its aim is to promote better outcomes in health for all and in social care for adults, as well as fulfilling certain extra responsibilities as set out in the Health and Social Care Act 2012.

We are proud to announce that Paula Woodruff has been accepted as a member of the Shadow Healthwatch Board.

To prepare for this transition, Blackburn with Darwen Council in partnership with the LINk, has established a Shadow Healthwatch, with around fifteen core members and a larger number of associate members, with officer support.  This bodies’ duties are to develop the operating procedures and practices that will be used by the Healthwatch Blackburn with Darwen from April 2013.

Paula said, ‘As a Blackburn with Darwen resident I look forward to representing the views of diverse, and especially vulnerable communities.  I have always been passionate about the current functioning and future enhancement of care and health practices; my career and educational achievements give testament to this.  I have seen firsthand that when care is delivered correctly, it does not only enhance the life of the individual, but also that of their supporters, community, and even has the potential to impact positively upon the public purse.  Together with my fellow Board Members, I will strive to help develop a system that is  responsive, fair, and within ‘best value’ parameters, for my town, my neighbours and my family.’
