T.P Properties sponsors local rising swimming star

It is with great pride that we are able to announce our backing of local rising swimming star Niamh Robinson.  Being proud of its Lancastrian roots it seems only fitting that T.P Properties works to support the locality’s future Olympians.

Niamh is 11 years old and began swimming at the age of three.  She describes herself as ‘a very committed and determined swimmer, training approximately twelve to fourteen hours per week, both before and after school.   I am very lucky to have parents who are both extremely supportive... (of) my chosen sport, they do everything within their capabilities to enable me to succeed.’

This year 2010-11, Niamh has proven to be a very strong contender throughout the North West of England, she adds that ‘in every event I have competed in.  I qualified for fourteen out of a possible fifteen Lancashire County Age Group Championship events.  However, I decided to compete in only eight selected events.  I returned with three gold medals, one silver and one bronze.

During this season, I also achieved ten of the twelve qualifying times for the North West Regional Age Group Championships, which I have recently taken part in, at Manchester Aquatics Centre.  Competing in the 400m Individual Medley, I took the silver medal.  In the 100m and 200m Breaststroke I swam to victory, taking the gold medals in both events.  I also qualified for the final of the 100m Backstroke, taking fourth place, and in the 200m Backstroke, fifth place.  As a result of my success at these Championships, I am currently ranked third in the Country in the 200m Breaststroke and sixth in the 100m Breaststroke events for the 11 years age group.’  Impressive statistics indeed!

Throughout this season, her times have improved and her training has been stepped up a level, being encouraged by her coach to attempt to achieve the National Qualifying Times in her chosen disciplines.  These times would allow her to compete in the National Age Group Championships, which take place in Sheffield in July of this year.  Only the top twenty swimmers in each age group in the United Kingdom manage to achieve the times necessary to compete at this level.  Niamh did all her supporters proud and gained not one but six qualifying times!

In the swimming world at the moment, the top swimmers are competing in high technology knee-suits made from a seamless, bonded and tight fitting material which compresses the body to minimise friction for the swimmer whilst competing.  These garments cost approximately £180 – £200 per suit for a child.   We are pleased to provide these and other necessary training features to help Niamh’s future improvement.

Niamh’s mum Suzanne said that she was ‘immensely grateful.  With regards to how the money will be spent, it will pay for new competition swimming costumes, training accessories, competition entry fees and overnight accommodation if required.

We have also been considering applying for places on high level coaching sessions on individual stroke techniques.  These are run by top level coaches such as Bill Sweetham the ex-Australian Olympic coach and ex-National Performance Director of British Swimming.   This type of extra input will help Niamh to better understand technique and help her achieve more from the coaching and training she undertakes locally.’

We at T.P Properties are thrilled to have Niamh as one of our team, and we’ll be with her along her journey to hopefully World and Olympic success!
